“Le luminarie” is a documentary film about “luminarie” by the amazing graphic designer and documentarist Saki Mafundikwa that Marika Mastrandrea has the chance to meet in 2013 during a workshop in Castrignano de’ Greci (LE).
“Every August they have a festival of lights celebrating how the town was saved from destruction by a cyclone by St. Anthony. I fell in love with the design of the lights and grabbed my camera and shot this. None of the subjects in the film speak English neither do I speak Italian but I had help from some of the students/teachers particularly Marika Mastrandrea who was my production assistant and interpreter. I have had no chance to translate this so it’s in Italian. If you don’t understand it never mind, just enjoy the beautiful design.” (Saki Mafundikwa)

“Le luminarie” è un documentario sulle luminarie dell’incredibile graphic designer e documentarista Saki Mafundikwa che Marika Mastrandrea ha avuto la fortuna di incontrare nel 2013 durante un workshop tenuto a Castrignano de’ Greci (LE).
“Ad agosto organizzano un festival delle luci che celebra come la città si è salvata dalla distruzione da un ciclone di Sant’Antonio. Mi sono innamorato del design delle luci, ho afferrato la mia macchina fotografica e ho scattato questa foto. Nessuno dei soggetti del film parla inglese e nemmeno io parlo italiano, ma ho avuto l’aiuto di alcuni degli studenti / insegnanti in particolare Marika Mastrandrea che era la mia assistente di produzione e interprete. Non ho avuto la possibilità di tradurre questo, quindi è in italiano. Se non lo capisci, non importa, goditi il bellissimo design.” (Saki Mafundikwa)
