Marika Mastrandrea’s thesis research project stems from the desire to know aspects that characterize the design of a photo book. Informations about designing this kind of books were collected by interviewing the actors who interact in this process: photographers, designers, editors and theorists. It was thus possible to know not only the design dynamics that lead to the creation of a photographic book, but also the relational ones that are established between the actors directly involved.
The goal of the thesis project is to provide a “method tool” that does not purport to be a guide to the “correct” design of a photographic book, but a means that stimulates reflection whenever, during the processing of the book, it is necessary to taking a decision.

Il progetto di tesi di ricerca di Marika Mastrandrea nasce dal desiderio di conoscere gli aspetti che caratterizzano la progettazione di un libro fotografico. Le informazioni sulla parte progettuale di libri di questo tipo sono state raccolte intervistando gli attori che interagiscono in questo processo: fotografi, designer, editori e teorici. È stato così possibile conoscere, non solo le dinamiche progettuali che portano alla realizzazione di un libro fotografico, ma anche quelle relazionali che si instaurano tra gli attori direttamente coinvolti. L’obiettivo del progetto di tesi è fornire uno “strumento di metodo” che non pretende essere una guida alla “corretta” progettazione di un libro fotografico, ma un mezzo che stimoli alla riflessione ogni volta che, durante la lavorazione del libro, si deve prendere una decisione.
